De plus, il existait ça et là des gués qui permettaient la circulation et les échanges avec les habitants de la plaine de La Tiffardière et Sevreau…<br /> <br /> <br /> == CHEY, un site fréquenté ==<br /> <br /> <br /> Découverte d’une hache de pierre polie à La Tiffardière.<br /> Découverte de cinq haches de bronze à « Bois Châtaigner » en 1848.<br /> Découverte de vestiges gallo-romains à Bessac, au bas du Coteau Saint-Hubert et dernièrement à La Moucherie.<br /> <br /> Les historiens locaux, prétendent qu’une ancienne ferme gauloise serait enfouie dans la boucle de la Sèvre.<br /> Au temps des Gaulois, la région fut occupée par les « Pictavis » (originaires du Nord des Iles Britanniques, ils tenaient leur nom du fait qu’ils adoraient se peindre le visage et le corps). Alliés de Vercingétorix (vaincu à Alésia par Jules César), le « pays », comme toute la Gaule, sera colonisé par les Légions Romaines. Ainsi on a retrouvé un denier d’argent de l’Empereur Tibère au Galuchet.<br /> <br /> Pendant ce temps, la chrétienté s’implante dans la région, et dès l’an 500, une première église est construite sur l’îlot de Saint-Liguaire : Notre Dame de Bon Port, dépendante de la première Abbaye de Saint-Maixent dirigée à l’époque par Agapit, lequel sera rapidement rejoint par un jeune homme nommé Adjutor (originaire d’Agde), à l’origine de très nombreux miracles qui attireront les plus puissants dont Clovis, roi des Francs.</div>
